Mündersbach, Germany, 21 May 2015 – Welding ferromagnetic materials can prove difficult at times: the arc is deflected and the whole welding process becomes unstable. Inadequate welding results are the consequence and require reworking.

This problem is often caused by magnetism in the workpiece. Magnetism affects the arc and deflects it. The stronger the magnetic field, the greater its influence on the arc and the poorer the welding properties and seam quality. If the workpiece is degaussed before the welding process, such effects do not appear. Degaussing power source degauss 600 by EWM eliminates the magnetic field, so that it no longer has an adverse effect on the welding process. A degaussed workpiece ensures a stable arc. The outcome is an error-free, reproducible welding result.

The degaussing power source and a load cable are the two core components in the degauss 600. The system is incredibly easy to use: the load cable is wound around the component on the section containing the point to be welded. The more turns there are, the more effective the degaussing process is. Degaussing is automatic and takes just little over a minute, so it is completed extremely quickly. The subsequent welding process is now reliable and there is no need for finishing work. EWM also supplies an optional magnetic field meter to measure the strength of the magnetic field in the workpiece.

The MMA welding machine EWM Pico 350 cel puls PWS DGS has even integrated such a degaussing function. This means degaussing and welding can both be performed using a single machine.
