Innovative joining technology for
tubular steel structures – resistance
can be increased by up to 100%
Research Project:
Laser Cutting Technology for Tubular Struc-
tures – LASTTS
The results of the project will be presented
at a workshop addressing engineers, archi-
tects, producers, construction companies
and authorities related to the construction
sector.
Funded by:
Research Fund for Coal and Steel, European
Commission
Date: 11 – 12 May 2025
Place: Düsseldorf, Germany
Consortium:
seven universities, nine industrial partners
Information about the project can be found
under www.lastts.eu.
Aim:
The research project was aiming at the
development of a new type of joints for
tubular structures by applying leading edge
laser cutting technology for the preparation
of the joints. The performance of the joints
was tested experimentally and numerically
on details and on full-scale members. Based
on the results new design methods were
developed for practical applications.
To be kept updated about further details
of the workshop please send a note to
LASTTS@stb.RWTH-Aachen.de
Results:
Experimental and numerical investigations
have indicated a major increase of the resist-
ance (up to 100%) of the novel joints com-
pared to conventional technologies.
